I just finished reading Buried alive by Roy Hallums. Thomas Nelson provided me a copy of this book for review. It was an amazing read after getting through the introduction. It’s a true story of Roy who was working in Iraq and was kidnapped and held for ransom for 311 days in a underground prison too small to even stand up.

In the pages of the story Roy tells about how he took each day one day at time to survive the torture, the beatings and the humiliation placed on him by his captors. Roy gives anyone going through a trial, difficult time in their life hope to make it through whatever is going on. After being told over and over that he was going to be released numerous times he learned to keep track of days and time of day by the prayers of his captors and another hostage.

Upon his rescue Roy shares how he has handled his return to life, handled the trial of some of the men involved, a job offer to return to the Mid East and a reality show. In my opinion Roy is a true American Hero.

One thing that surprised me about the book was how little it talked about Roy’s faith. There were two short mentions of him praying for a sign that he would be rescued and for it to stop raining.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, especially someone sitting back and saying how will I ever make it through a trial.
